We have had Chows in our family since the mid-eighties. When our last Chow, Sheba (#1) passed away in 2001 at the age of 16, we missed her so much we set out for a new puppy. We soon discovered that while some breeds were having 50k to over 100k per year that were AKC registered, there were less than 2000 AKC registered Chow puppies being born per year (and the numbers were dropping each year).

3 years later, we finally decided on some nice quality, Champion background Chow pups and began a breeding program when they reached adulthood. Our Chows have very nice Pedigrees. Our goal is to help to continue the existence of this ancient breed of dog, while finding responsible, loving homes for them,.... so when you inquire about a puppy, #1) we'd like to know where you're located, #2) if there are other pets, #3) if you have experience with Chows, #4) how much time you'll have to spend with them, and #5) will someone always be around for them, etc. Mostly common sense things that focus on the best interest of the puppy.

All puppies in our litters are 100% FULL AKC Registered, ready to be transferred into your name as the new owner...(We don't agree with other breeders who cheat people out of full registration rights - or charge a larger price for full registration). AKC is the best regristration company because it accurately tracks every single Pedigree and can't be altered by unscrupulous people trying to mis-represent the lineage.

When puppies are born, they will be posted on the website with photos and info. We review all interested parties and start our process of choosing the puppies' most potential new families. (If you haven't been chosen, do not take offense because probably there weren't enough puppies in the litter).

Deposits are not accepted until the puppies are at least 1 week old. We prefer to have people visit when the puppies are 5 weeks. Some people want to wait and visit the puppies before choosing one, but then there are other interested families who prefer to reserve their puppy as soon as possible.....So it's a bit of a balancing act. All deposits are $300.00 and are fully refundable if you decide not to get the puppy, or if we decide it's not a good match. After you choose and reserve a puppy, we will keep you informed of their progress and update with new photos often so you can watch your puppy grow and will be somewhat familiar with them when it's time to take them home.

New policies due to the virus:
*We prefer that new families pick up their new puppy at our location, which is about 70 miles North of Sacramento.
If you are flying in, we prefer to not meet at the Sacramento Airport. In the past, it has been a very frustrating and very time consuming, experience.
*We would occasionally transport them in the past for a fee that covered our round-trip fuel consumption, but due to the new complications, prefer not to travel farther south than Fresno, and no longer travel outside of California.
*Actually it's better to travel here to pick up your puppy, because you can 'meet the parents', see how your puppy has been living, and in a relaxed atmosphere (with a bunch of yapping puppies) we can go over your AKC paperwork, ask questions, and talk about Chows!
*And of course, if you are local, you are more than welcome to come here to visit with your puppy as many times as you like before it's time to take the puppy home with you. We truly believe it makes it so much easier when they already know you, and when they go home with you, you'll already be friends!
*And of course, we do not ship puppies on planes. (Not sure they even do that anymore)

All puppies will be examined by our Vet and their first vaccinations will be given by our Vet at approx 7 weeks of age. They are weaned at 6 weeks and allowed to leave here at 9 weeks of age. At that time, we will make sure that they are 90% potty trained, can walk relatively well on a leash and harness, and are socialized as much as possible. You will receive a folder with all of your puppy's Registration paperwork and health/vaccination information, copies of the parent's AKC Certificates, a picture disk with photos of your puppy from birth to present, and they'll be fitted with a harness and leash for their safety.

All Moms and their puppies are fed healthy, enriched home-cooked foods: boiled chicken, potatoes, cheese, yogurt, eggs, etc.... We will get puppies used to canned (usually Pedigree) foods for the convenience of new owners. We don't start our own puppies on kibbles until they are 4 to 6 months old and we do not feed dry kibbles to your puppies, ever - and believe the new owners should research them thoroughly if you plan to. Cooking for you puppy is best and is only (barely) an extra plate per meal. Human grade meats, eggs, etc are always best.

Our Chows are our life and are members of our family. We provide a safe, clean and responsible home for all puppies that are being adopted and while they are in our care, we take care of them as if they are going to be here forever.

We do not have puppies available very often and apologize to people who have been waiting quite long. When we do have puppies, we have made every effort to ensure that the whole experience is intentionally planned. If the parents choose to cooperate, then that's wonderful...If either or both parents are not 'in the mood', then we just wait until next time and try again.

We hope you choose us when you are looking for your new puppy, but if not - no matter where you get your puppy, please try to make sure the breed standard is met: no flop ears, no indescriminate breeding, no puppy mills, no long legs, no long noses etc.... Always ask to see photos of the parents and also their pedigree. Try to find out how experienced the breeder is and don't just send money off to who knows where. This happened to me once......l made all financial arrangements prior to the pups being born, and when they finally were born, the 'sneaky' person turned out to be desperate for money, she sold all the puppies, (including the one I already paid for) and even after several litters, she still refuses to give me a puppy or even pay back the money, and even threatens me with lawsuits if I don't stop putting this information on my website. I have heard from several people who had less than honest dealings with her so please be careful because there are some very 'sneaky' people out there.
